An introduction to the Indian Classical Dance Styles of Kathak and Bharata Natyam
All ladies are invited to join instructors Yagyaa Srivastava and Rebecca Busch for this new and wonderfully interactive in-residence workshop on Vedic Dance.
A modality of the Maharishi Vedic Approach to Health, Vedic dance cultivates the relationship between consciousness and physiology, increasing mind-body coordination. This beautiful form of artistic expression provides excellent exercise in a blissful way.
As a participant, you will enjoy foundational training in Vedic dance that can be incorporated into your daily routine, holistically enhancing your health and well-being.
Note that the MERU Course Office is organising this workshop in the Maharishi Peace Palace in Rendlesham, the United Kingdom. To ensure all participants receive personalised attention, there is limited space available. Make sure to submit your application well in advance to reserve your spot!
“Take dance as an aspect of therapy — dance as a system of medicine, a system of health care.”
Maharishi

The course includes …

Experience and understanding of Vedic dance
The most delightful aspect of this workshop is morning and afternoon practice sessions, combined with knowledge of Vedic Dance in light of Maharishi’s Science of Consciousness. Through joyful movement we develop the relationship between the body, mind, and consciousness. Vedic Dance is ‘flowing yoga,’ a beautiful mode of self-discovery and self-expression to support the development of higher states of consciousness.
A focus on Kathak and Bharata Natyam dance forms
You’ll be introduced to two traditions of Indian Classical dance: Kathak and Bharata Natyam. Indian Classical Dance is characterised by rhythmic footwork, powerful and graceful movement, and a language of gesture and expression called abhinaya. The dance includes abstract, geometric patterns of movement as well as the element of storytelling, based in themes of love and devotion and illustrating stories from the Vedic literature.

A 10-minute routine for your well-being
This workshop will be interactive and personal. Even if you’re a beginner, you’re absolutely welcome – no previous dance training is necessary. By the end of the workshop, you’ll have learned simple movements you can easily incorporate into your daily routine at home, enhancing your experiences in meditation, providing you an excellent form of physical exercise, and helping to maintain an ideal balance of rest and activity.

The Peace Palace has been described as a ‘haven of rest’ guests, and has a five-star ‘fabulous’ rating on Booking.com. To learn more about the Peace Palace, visit their website here.

If this is a MERU course, why is it in the UK Peace Palace?
This year, MERU is operating without our standard course facility in St. Odiliënberg. To maximise the number of courses we are able to hold in this transitional period, we are arranging some events off-campus with partner institutions like the Maharishi Peace Palace in the United Kingdom.
The UK Peace Palace is the ideal environment for such an in-residence course and will provide a beautiful experience for all participants.

When should I arrive and depart?
Registration will be held in the Maharishi Peace Palace, UK between 16:00 and 19:00 of 18 July. Departure time is officially after lunch on 25 July. If you need additional nights of accommodation outside of the course dates, please arrange this with the Peace Palace directly at courses@peacepalace.org.uk.

How much does the course cost?
The all-inclusive course fee for the seven days is 905€ for a shared room, or 1064€ for a private room, which includes organic vegetarian meals. Maharishi Garden Village residents pay a reduced fee – for more details see our application form here.
